11/14/2023 0 Comments I am slack jawed![]() He started cracking up in an infectious way that he has that I love so much. Then I asked him to walk with shorter softer steps and feel his jaw. I had him walking in his usual manner, which slaps the feet down with a thud, and had him feel his jaw. Last night on our walk he mentioned the dental x-ray for some reason so I took the opportunity to play some walking games. He walk by snapping his lower leg forward. You can see what I mean in the guy at the back of the picture below. This is a pretty common pattern that I see all too often and while I pointed it out to him long ago I have never really asked him to stop or change. My son walks by kicking his lower leg out and he basically moves from the knee down. He knows well how much his walking pattern drives me crazy but at the same time I don’t want to be the parent that busts my children’s chops about everything they do. Last night Reggie and I went to dinner together that involved a half hour walk to the restaurant. He is probably hypermobile with joints that might even be looser than mine. The x-ray and the slack jaw go in hand in hand. A while back I wrote a post about a neck x-ray he had that scared me more than a little. It drives my wife a little crazy and I can’t say that I find it endearing. One of my sons less endearing features is the slack jawed tendency to hang his mouth open in repose. But what can you do? Onwards and upwards, as they say. Parenting fascinates me because while I know I do a decent job on a certain level, I am making choices and saying things on a daily basis that could easily come back to haunt me. We have been spending a lot of time together and at eight he is ready to hear some life lessons that I wasn’t prepared to deliver earlier. It has gotten much better as the years went by. I have written before how early childhood parenting wasn’t my forte. ![]() ![]() He is eight and at an age where we can relate deeply in a new emotional way. We're grounded upright walking primates, where we're vulnerable to being bled dry by other predatory, greedy and broken members of our own species.Of late, I have been doing some serious bonding with my son Reggie. We're no longer living in trees, where we can't be eaten. Don't fall for these bullsh*t sports headbands selling for $30 to $50 or more. ![]() You should not have to pay more than roughly $5 to $10 for such a headband. Don't just jam it on your head and hope for the best. * I can stop BLAMING myself for not getting a good night's sleep.ĭon't let these money-rich corporations or anyone else take you for another ride by selling you a "specially made for you jaw-band for $50 or more".īut you have to try it for yourself and find a jaw-band to suit YOU, YOU, YOU! Go for stretchy, velvety and soft but firm under your chin. * This is the first time in years I can sleep without the stress induced by a leaking nose mask and slack-jaw. * Since using the jaw-band my mask leaks are a low NORMAL, every time. * Last night I slept on my BACK the WHOLE night, apart from getting up once to pee. It's very positive, after having used the headband (now a jaw-band) for 3 nights. I need to give you folks an update that might help you with your leaking mask (might, because we primates are all different). ![]()
